How Do I Know if I Need Air Duct Cleaning

An air duct is a cylindrical or a square shaped tube which is used to carry cool and hot air into different rooms around the house. It is a part of the home ventilation and air conditioning system. Pressure is the driving force here, which steers the air around the air duct system. Air ducts are generally made out of sheet metal. The vents are strategically placed around different rooms in the house in order to provide air according to the requirements of the room.

If your air duct system is not properly installed, operated and maintained there might be problems occurring in the future. Components of your cooling and heating system may get tarnished with dust and debris. These components are the main cause behind the air flow across the rooms, so the dust contamination can make the air in the duct polluted, resulting in pollution across different rooms around the house. Due to exposure of air duct systems to the household air dust, debris and hair can also end up in the duct system.

This can happen due to the return ducts which feeds air into the furnace.
If you are facing the above problems you will need proper air duct cleaning. Air duct cleaning will help you to remove dust, debris, pet dander and hair from the system. Proper cleaning might also result in removal of odd objects like coins, stationary items and small toys which might have been accidentally dropped in the air duct system. Good cleaning ensures improvement in the overall indoor air quality.

There are examples of water getting in to the air duct system through condensation or leakage. If something like this happens, you need to get your air ducts cleaned immediately as this can cause growth of molds in the system. Depending on the severity of the mold you need to take some action. First of all you need to find the cause behind the leakage or condensation and get it fixed. Secondly you need to disinfect the air duct system depending on the mold spread. If it is very severe then the best solution is to get rid of the present air duct system and get a new one.

Another way to keep the air ducts clean without much fuss is to replace the filter on the furnace. This prevents dirt and debris from accumulating in the heating ventilation and air conditioning system also known as HVAC system. Filtering replacement ensures less accumulation of dust, but it cannot prevent it from settling in. This method was suggested by the Canadian Housing and Mortgage Corporation.

Return ducts accumulate a lot of dust compared to the supply ducts. So the return ducts need to be cleaned on a regular basis. You can hire a professional vacuum cleaning company in order to clean the return duct or vacuum it yourself after removing the outside grill.

If a construction work is going on in your house then accumulation of particles like debris, fiberglass and sawdust can take place in your air duct system. This accumulation causes blockage which in turn can affect the air flow to your furnace. So in this case you might also consider air duct cleaning to ensure proper flow of air in the house.

Carpet Cleaning How Steam Cleaning Gets the Job Done

The methods used to clean carpets vary due to the adaptation of different ways. A wide variety of tools exist, in order to clean carpets such as powders, liquids, sanitizers, concentrates, stain-resistant cleaners and spotters, deodorizers, etc. Knowing the assignment of the cleaning job is very important when it comes to selecting the products for a precise purpose.

It is extremely important that the carpet cleaning method that one chooses should be according to the type of carpet one possesses. It is quite obvious that one should never choose a method that is going to hurt the material of the carpet.

Out of all the various procedures out there, the most thorough method for cleaning carpets is steam cleaning them. This is also known as hot water extraction. It is the most recommended cleaning procedure by a majority of carpet manufacturers. An amalgamation of deep cleaning effectiveness and carpet safe gentleness is the signature of this type of cleaning.

This method involves use of very hot water to penetrate deep into the carpet fibers. The water should surpass temperatures of 220 degrees which, in turn could be very effective in killing a great deal of the germs, bacteria, and other microscopic pests that gather and live within the carpet.

The high temperature steam is used in order to break down dirt and grime that attaches itself to the carpet fibers. Detergents can also be used if the carpet is dirtier and requires some extra muscle. The applied detergent works its way into the fibers. Then, the detergent attaches itself to the dirt and traps them until the wand can extract it from the carpet.

This procedure is also considered eco-friendly, as it only uses water to do the cleaning rather than chemicals. Because of this procedure no toxins get released into the air or left behind in the carpet. This is a very safe method for homes where there are children.

The only disadvantage arising out of steam cleaning is the drying time. In case of such a thorough cleaning process one needs to wait around 24 hours, depending on the amount of cleaning. During this time one needs to stay off the carpet so that it can dry completely and correctly. However, there have been a number of recent technological advancements in the carpet cleaning business that have speeded up the process. There are many companies out there who use special wands that can curtail the drying time down to somewhere around 2-4 hours.

It is generally recommended to have a carpet cleaning professional handle a household’s steam cleaning needs. If the carpet is not extracted thoroughly or left to dry improperly, one could end up with stains. But with the experience and knowledge of a professional one shouldn't worry about anything but staying off the carpet until it dries.

The effectiveness of steam cleaning cannot be matched by other methods out there. The ability of the steam to penetrate and attack the grime in a carpet as aggressively as it does without causing any side effects is simply extraordinary. If a carpet is in need of a deep cleaning then steam cleaning is the best way to go.

Which Carpet Cleaning Solution Is Right For Me

Carpets are indeed one of the most important things that one can find in a household today. The overall composition of a whole room depends upon the carpet itself. This is one of the reasons why majority of the people have carpets in their homes to make them look elegant. However, elegance is subject to one condition - cleanliness. Carpets look their best when they are clean and new. Most home owners do make it a point by maintaining the cleanliness of their carpets.

With so many different methods out there to clean carpets, it all comes down to which method an individual prefers, depending upon the condition the carpets are in and what they are made of. All the various methods out there get the job done, but choosing the best possible method comes down to informed decision making.

Foam Method In this process, a machine agitates the foaming shampoo applied into the carpet to absorb the dirt. After this event the carpet is left to dry and is then vacuumed along with the dirt and soil. The carpet dries quickly, although some residue is left behind.

Rotary Method - This technique requires a single-disc rotary floor machine. The rotary brush, scrubs cleaner into the carpet from a tank on the machine. In this way, by using a wet vacuum, the dirty solution gets removed. By applying this method, one should be able to clean by agitating the carpet stuffs.

Bonnet Cleaning This is considered one of the best cleaning methods and is also very popular. At first, a cleaning solution is applied to the carpet to absorb all the dust and the soil. Then the solution gets soaked into the cotton bonnets of the spinning machine. The bonnets are generally made from synthetic materials.

Powder Method – Here, a semi-moist powder is applied. This powder absorbs the soil in the carpet. It is then allowed to dry and vacuumed out. The drying process happens very quickly, although some residue is still remains on the carpet.

Steam Cleaning Method - This is considered the best carpet cleaning method by carpet manufacturers. It can be done through either a portable unit or a truck mounted unit. Although, the truck mounted unit is considered the better option. Cleaning highly soiled carpets is a piece of cake with this method.

At first, the cleaning solution is applied to the carpet. It is then rinsed from the carpet using hot water. This method involves constant flushing action, which is why it does a thorough cleaning job. The only downside from this process is that it takes around a day to dry. But there is an upside as well because the high heat leaves the carpet free from bacteria, fungus, mold, and dust mites.

If someone wants to find the best carpet cleaning method for his or her respective carpets, they should first ask there local carpet cleaning expert. Not all carpets are the same. Some have different types of textiles for which they require a specific type of carpet cleaning technique.

History of Steamatic Total Restoration and Cleaning Company

Any homemaker would know that building a home might be difficult, but maintaining one is an equally arduous process. The detailed cleaning and maintenance procedure that needs to go into a house to make it a home is difficult, to say the least. And herein comes in the role of an enterprise called the Steamatic Total Restoration and Cleaning Company.

Way back in 1948, a couple of men decided to join the carpet cleaning business. They had already decided that this company would be very contrary from the others already in the market. Instead of sticking to revenue, they would give innovation the ahead seat. Relying on reliability and quality, Bill Blackmon and Scott Mooring were soon leading the carpet cleaning industry.

However, new inventions were always on the back of the entrepreneur's mind. They continuously worked to grow new methods of cleaning and removing dirt from their customers' homes. As their enterprise started bringing in more and more revenue and business enlarged, the idea of franchising entered their minds. It was perhaps the best strategy for technology transfer and profits as well.

As ideas continued to form and get modified, something big happened in the short history of the enterprise. In 1974, the company got its first patent. It was something that involved the Lambrite appliance and later the Lambrite dry cleaning method (which they are so popular for). From then onwards, Steamatic has been granted 21 additional patents in the United States, Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Japan, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Spain and Switzerland.

With the entrepreneurial minds of Blackmon and Mooring leading from the front, Steamatic continued to develop. Throughout their journey and whenever a require arose, Steamatic used their technical expertise and knowledge to address the difficulty. One such requirement was the issue of indoor air quality in both commercial and residential buildings. Steamatic saw this need more than 25 years before their competitors and began to grow the resources to meet it head on.

In October 2006, there was a absolute turn of events and Bill Sims purchased Steamatic, Inc and its subsidiaries from BMS Enterprises, Inc. Soon after, he put forth the following statement:

"I have had the privilege of working with the Steamatic franchise owners for over 20 years. Steamatic has had a long history and proud heritage, and I appreciate the efforts that others have given in the past to help build this company. I am proud to call each of you as partners in our franchise system. I am excited about this opportunity to work with you and lead Steamatic into a new era. We will continue to focus on quality customer service, brand recognition and new franchise development. My goal is to further enhance our industry leadership position. Together, we can continue to build a stronger Steamatic franchise system for the future."

As an enterprise Steamatic is still a growing company, and the new management is as committed to novelty as the founders. The choice of going worldwide is still at hand, and this might be the next big activity for the company.
